Library - a 2nd Home

"Libraries rock!  There is something magical about walking the aisles and checking out the stacks of books.  Being wedged between stacks and having the smell of books drift into my nose is comforting.  If I could live in the library, I would."

-Pembroke Sinclair

The Friends of the Yardley-Makefield Library is a group of volunteers who donate time to assist with library tasks and to raise funds for the betterment of the library.

The primary fundraiser is the book and media sale held each year in August. All of the items sold are donated by the public, and then reviewed and organized by the Friends.  The community has shown overwhelming support for the book sales with their attendance and donations of good quality books, audio books, DVDs, CDs, and puzzles.

In the recent past, funds raised from book sales have been used to purchase mobile shelving units for the library, study desks, landscaped the front and back of the library and in November 2015 the Friends sponsored the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Yardley Makefield Library.  The Friends have also purchased the circulation desk and furniture for library users and staff.  They have also contributed money to assist in the purchase of new lighting, shades, bookends, carts and other supplies.  The Friends also use funds to present outstanding, entertaining and educational programs that are well received by the public.  These programs are free and held on Saturdays at 2:00 pm.  In addition to the Saturday Programs, the Friends provide for Thursday morning Chair Yoga sessions.

Those interested in receiving updates on book sales and programs can join our e-mail list on the Friends’ website.

Would you like to be more involved?  Stop by the library and pick up a form or visit to print out a membership form.  Attend one of their meetings and see how you can contribute. Meetings are held at the Yardley-Makefield Library at 10:30am on the second Tuesday of the month except July, August, and December. Whether you have a small amount of time or are looking to be very involved, there are opportunities for you!

Friends are members of the  Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends & Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association; and Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries (PCBL).

All donations to the Friends go directly to support your Yardley-Makefield Branch Library.

Monthly FRIENDS Meetings

The YM-Friends meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month (except July, August and December) at 10:30 am in the library conference room at the Yardley Makefield Branch Library, 1080 Edgewood Road in Yardley.  All are welcome!!!  Come join the fun and be involved with your library.

If you are interested in volunteering at the library, you can fill out an application form in the library.

Friends membership forms are available at the library or you can print out a form from this website.

What is the difference between Friends of the Library and Volunteers?

Friends support the library by raising and contributing money for programs, equipment, services, and materials.  People become Friends by paying a membership fee and/or contributing money to support the Friends.  Active Friends attend monthly meetings and help to raise funds (primarily through our annual book sale).

Volunteers help the library by performing various tasks.  Currently, there is a demand for volunteers who are willing and able to put materials in order and/or to shelve materials.

Not surprisingly, many of our volunteers are Friends (or is it the other way around).  We work hard, but have a good time, since we are made to feel very welcome by the Yardley-Makefield staff.

If you are interested in becoming an active Friend, please leave a message and telephone number at the library and someone will get back to you. You can also email the Friends at
